The best known current example is Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that experts have rated equivalent to the Encyclopedia Britannica. The WoodTurningWiki uses the same software as Wikipedia but it's scope is much narrower. The WoodTurningWiki is just about wood turning, decoration, wood art, and related subjects.
