Barbara Crockett has been creating lathe turned wood art since 1999. Each unique piece is hand shaped and hollowed on a wood lathe from native as well as exotic woods. After fine sanding, finish and wax are applied using a three step buffing process which produces a tactile and lustrous piece. As an active member of the American Association of Wooturners, as well as their local affiliates; Central Ohio Woodturners and Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild, Barbara has exhibited her work and performed demonstrations at both local and regional symposiums for Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild Turning 2003, 2005 and 2007 and for the Southern States Symposium in April of 2008. Her works, "Off Base", and "Rescued" have been selected to be part of AAW exhibits titled "Step Up To The Plate" and "Turned Green". In addition, two of her pieces are currently part of "The Best of 2008" exhibit sponsored by Ohio Designer Craftsmen. Barbara has exhibited and sold her work at the Worthington and Upper Arlington Art Festivals as well as Artistry In Wood in the Dayton area since 2004. In May she completed her second term as President of the Central Ohio Woodturners in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to the art of woodturning, Barbara is a retired middle school band director and former member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. She still enjoys performing at Liberty Presbyterian Church and with Worthington Civic Band.
